Ashford Sunday League, Division Three
Courtside Soccer Centre, Stanhope
10.30am kick-off
The idea of an Ashford Victoria Football Club was conceived back in October 2005 when founder Ryan Mills decided to form a mens Sunday football team. The initial core of the new team would consist of a group of young players who met up on Sunday mornings for a kick about at Ashford's Victoria Park, and after three months looking into what was needed to set up this new club, the first open trials were arranged for February 2006. Some 45 people turned up for the first ever training session and this was soon filtered down to a more manageable group of 20 over the next few weeks.
Mills elected himself as both Chairman and Team manager of Ashford Victoria, and the club played their first ever fixture in a friendly against Ashford Sunday League Divison Three side Willesborough United, a former club of Mills', in April 2006. The squad that day included Ryan Mills, Luke Hendry, Rob Spicer, Stuart Wittwer, Lloyd Santer, Shane Jupp, Aaren Carlton, Tony Fuller, Tony Mason, Jack Bundock, Richard Mills, Darren Banks, Michael Mills, Lee Lewis, Wayne Cleave, Mark Carlton and Darren Rawlings. Jack Bundock scored Victoria's first ever goal in a one-sided 6-1 defeat.
The Vics went on to draw 2-2 with a Charing Sunday XI and then beat Aldington Sports Reserves 5-3 in their next two friendles before finally being accepted as full members of the Ashford Sunday League and were elected to Division Four for the start of the 2006/07 season starting that September. The clubs first competitive game was a 0-2 defeat to that seasons champions Galacticos at Hythe Road. The team that morning was Ryan Mills, Luke Hendry, Rob Spicer, Chris Batt, Ryan Martin, Steve Keep, Shane Jupp, Tony Fuller, Darren Banks, Richard Mills and Aaren Carlton.
The Vics finished their first full season in fifth position in the table, as well as reaching the last-eight of the Sheber Trophy after bowing out to Division Three winners Market Hotel Reserves in the Quarter-Finals. Jack Bundock won the Golden Boot as top scorer with 27 goals, while both Ryan Martin and Aaren Carlton played in all the 23 first-team fixtures.
Victoria achieved promotion to Division Three in their second season, missing out on the Division Four league title by just two points, and also reached the final of the League Cup going down 2-1 in extra time to Shadoxhurst at Hythe Town's Reachfields Stadium. Jack Bundock again top scored with 45 competitve goals in just 27 appearances, and along with new captain Andy Jones, both players went the whole season without missing a game.
In the 2008/09 season, Victoria got off to a flier winning eight of their first nine matches, but after a mid season slump The Vics fell away and only managed to finish fifth in Division Three. The Vics did manage to reach the semi finals of the League Cup, going down in extra time to Brewmaster Reserves, who also knocked Victoria out of the Kent Junior Trophy in Round Three. Wayne Cleave was the clubs top scorer with 26 goals in as many appearances.
